Salton Sea II

tom grubbe

I don't remember if I used an ND grad here or not. I think the sun was low enough so it wasn't necessary. This was shot from Bombay Beach on the eastern shore of the Salton Sea looking south.

It's a lovely photograph. I have been to the Salton Sea and knowing how much it stinks to even be within 50 yards of the place, extra kudos for hanging around long enough to make a beautiful photo. It is so peaceful and warm and still.

amazing photo, it seems as though they were just floating around, in the set of some incredible colors, congratulations tom, this shot deserves to be photo of the week!

I would like to see this in a very large frame with a correspondingly large white mat. As presented on the screen, this one does not pop like it could or should if framed. It is a very intriguing photo, one that grows on you in the same way that a great piece of music does. It isn't your typical eye candy. A lot of thought went into this shot, and a lot of thought is required for the fullest appreciation of it.

Congratulations, Tom. Love your work.

I'm with Lannie. I think that a large print would sing. I'm attracted first by the lack of any line

between sky and sea, and then the beautiful wash of colour. I see what Stephen pointed out

about movement from right to left, which leaves me wondering how it would look cropped to

remove the solid ground. Just mucking around with it for myself, cropping it from the right

gives a far more abstract image.

Congratulations on an excellent POTW.

For those of us that read left to right, you may want to 'flop the neg' as we used to say.

Loose part? A tad too much sky and we leave the image after about 5 seconds as we then start scanning the empty sky but leave after not finding anything. Go tighter and you get about 10 seconds of the veiwers attention... ending result? A 100% improvement in my book.

Congrats, Tom. It's a truly great picture. Yes, simple is good - sometimes, at least...:-) Lovely colors, and very clean minimalistic composition. Who needs anything more ? Well done.

Great shot Tom. I really like the simplicity and the mood found in this picture. I'm awaiting the "lady of the sea" to emerge in the fog.
