arnabbanerjee 0 Posted February 15, 2007 Great use of dynamic range. I am still in the old age and use Grad ND in these situations, but good to see what can be done with these new techniques. Composition is little off for me - I almost think that a horizontal format would suit this scene better. Also, dodging corners will probably help to have a stronger focus on the subject. Otherwise, a superb shot Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted February 18, 2007 An excellent image and perfect exmple of using different image with levels for extending the tonal range. Only one remark, the rather dark final part of the tree. Well done. As regards the trolls, well some guys aren't able to go out and do some serious photography. They feel comfortable doing low rating anonymously and I think they don't get the fact that they must judge other's work for how the images are, not how they would like to be. Best regards. paul pinkley 0 Posted February 19, 2007 I like this Will....the lead in with the tree is excellent...I might be inclined to have the base of the tree more into the bottom right of the capture but looks very nice and a very nice exposure Link to comment
uriah 0 Posted February 24, 2007 When I look at this I see the calm of the light rays in the distance with the reflective water but when I pull back I see a storm approaching from the left. The water looks like it's getting stronger too. Really cool image Will! Ya got my vote! Thanks so much for sharing! Justin Link to comment

peter_houtmeyers 0 Posted May 8, 2007 Stunning photo! The marble sky with gods ray's coming through....the tree on the beach...all fits in perfectly. Well done! Link to comment
dogbert 0 Posted March 11, 2008 Sorry Will, but I have to say I like your other work much better. You have some amazing work but this one leaves me a bit flat. The HDR makes it all look a bit too perfect - great micro contrast within forground, midground and background, but no overall contrast between the various elements in the picture. The colours and the subject matter don't really speak to me. Clearly others like it, so you can probably ignore my comments. Link to comment
will king 0 Posted March 11, 2008 Thanks for commenting Geoff. Actually this is not HDR. It was made with manual exposure blending. I would disagree with your "flat" statement. This is image hardly suffers from a lack of contrast. There are true blacks and true whites, with several tones in between. Link to comment
Emmanuel Enyinwa 0 Posted March 11, 2008 So delicately composed, so beautifully realized. Full marks!! Link to comment
sarah_fox 4 Posted March 11, 2008 Excellent job of layering! So much better than the HDR effect. I don't think the compositional problems are bad. I might have placed the tripod a bit more to the left and shot a bit more to the right to pull both the tree top and the sun's rays a bit away from the edges of the frame, but then again, that would prevent you from getting the wonderful perspective on the base of the tree trunk. No, I like it fine just as it is. ;-) Nice shot(s)! :-) Link to comment
karlwim 0 Posted May 11, 2008 I like your photo. The weathered tree clinging to live year after year, storm after storm. To me a photo is not only about a pretty picture, it also tells a story (even if it only reminds the photographer of his experience during the photo session). Your photo tells many stories...excellent. What is this HDR everyone talks about? I do not understand this term. Regards Karlwim Link to comment
