There is a lot of emotion in this picture. Very well done. Just one question, is that a scar on his neck?

This is the type of photography that is important to me at this moment. The photo say many thinks.

I found interesting the grain.

Very emotional photo. If I could just add a comment, I might like to see less grain or contrast. The grain highlights the stitching, and my eyes go right to it. I would rather have my eyes go to the face first, and then search for the cause of the pain. Just a thought. Thanks for posting a great photo.

I think the grain adds a lot to this pic, and I am struck by how this emphasizes his quiet dignity. I might have preferred a little more depth of field, to include his right shoulder, and the outer edge of his right face. In my opinion, your subject is the person, not the endarterectomy staples, and the shallow dof draws the eye to that. However I realize you didn't have much light to allow latitude with f-stop. Very memorable.

I would crop this a bit tighter. Nice edge effect.

Makes me want to know why, what happened, who did this?

Naked and honest angst, moody lighting and a very sympathetic grain pattern, albiet higher than I would normall expect from APX100 (?pushed a couple stops?). The recent surgical site looks like the residua from a neck dissection- a radical type of cancer surgery for throat and mouth tumors.
