extremely new to all of this so any advice is greatly appreciated.

You're off to a great start. You can see that light is the true subject here, regardless of what is in front of the camera. Only suggestion is to remove the fence rail from the bottom of the photo and decenter the sun slightly more next time. Your exposure was right on and the focus was good. Try more like these and post them.
