You guys seem to have enjoyed the detail shot of the engine and

prop, so here is the whole thing. Enjoy, and comments are very much

welcome!

Red? I would have guessed yellow based on the tones; anyway, odd title for a monochrome image! Anyway, this is an example of a nice clean airplane portrait. Flattering angle, nice soft lighting, sympathetic and non-distracting background. Couldn't do better in a studio. A pic that the aircraft's owner should like.

August, thank you for your kind words - I really appreciate your comments and always highly value your opinion.

There were a few clouds in the sky and I think I may be able to drag them out with a little burn-in to liven up the background - perhaps next time I am in the darkroom. I think it will change the character of the picture to a large extent, though.

Now... as to the airplane, I assure you its the very same one that displays its prop and engine the close up shot, and its very much blood red:) I think I will have some fun with this one - any guesses?

I have read all the other comments here and off the following.

I don't understand why an aircraft of color (red) would be presented in B&W????

I feel as though this image could have been much better if only the beautiful color of the aircraft were shown. Also, this image appears to be a tad soft on detail. Might be my monitor...

Enjoy!

Well, this photo COULD have been about color, but notwithstanding the title, it happens not to be; Peter is trying to get you to look at the shape of the aeroplane. Had he chosen to stress color instead, I would likely have suggested that he move in on the subject, at least enough to cut off most of the wings, so that the red could compete more successfully against the blue sky and green grass. Colorizing the composition as is would just make it a postcard shot.

Scott - this scan is rather soft-ish (ok, its garrishly soft, lacking contrast and well... it sucks) compared to the print/negative. I am dealing with rock bottom scanning facilities :) Also, I notice that monitor to monitor, the "quality" varies further still... Sometimes I question the rationale of doing this at all, but I do like to share the photos and get input, even if its based on a very general idea of what the photo actually looks like.

The title was just supposed to be cheeky in a B&W photo - I think a little too much has been made of it. It IS a red plane - but it should be immaterial to this image - if it is not, then I have failed:)

Many thanks to August for chiming in - your insight is as always very much appreciated, and I am flattered that you had kind words to direct towards my photo and thankful for all the suggestions and critiques.
