That is a fantastic photo! Amazing DOF. I really like the composition, the detail, and the colors! Thank you for sharing it. I saw the photographic details. How close was the front of the lens to the bee? Thanks again, Janet

This is an excellent photo, but you are far too hung up on photonet ratings. I feel kinda sorry for people who get upset because their photo isn't the top picture, or doesn't get top ratings they expected because of their self proclaimed excellence.

This is a fantastic photo, but not something I would want to hang on any wall of my house. Just because a photo is technically great, doesn't mean that everyone is going to look at it as the best photo in history.

There is always a different perspective, technically better, or equally unique photo out there to be taken. If you forget this, then you have lost your soul as a photographer and you are far too hung up on yourself.

Excellent shot 7/7.. Great detail! BTW How many ounces of honey did you give the bee to get it to pose like that? :P

Don't get worried about the ratings. Most of the anonymous ratings are not honest, anyway!!

Thank you for the insightful comment and may I mention my friend, there is no need to be offensive.

For your info, I'm not hung up on numbers. During my year and a half on Pnet, I have submitted ONLY a handful of images for rating.

The problem is not "the self proclaiming photographer" and we have gone through as what the real problem is. Another problem David, is the kind of member such as yourself who don't even have one photograph to show and yet proclaim to be an expert in evaluating photos on this site. Looking at the photos you have rated highest, it seems like you have a totally different view of what a good photo is, which is fine by me. What is not fine, is the way you seem to be an expert in Macrophotography, which I strongly doubt. And by the way, It's the novice way of thinking that a "great" photo is measured by weather or not you are going to hang it on your diningroom wall!

.

"good, but not the best"

Well, I did Not say it was the best but since you mentioned it, I would presume you know what you are talking about. NOW, would you please direct my attention to a full frame LIVE macro of such magnification, detail and technical qualities, specially of a bee and specially on this site, I BET YOU, you can't and I would love to be proven otherwise!

Ali, Jan, Nicole, John,Trudy, Janet and Raghuveer,

for stopping by and making kind and generous comments, appreciate your time.

Janet, For this set up, the bee was about 5 inches or 13 Centimeter from the lens. Please let me know if I can answer any further questions you may have.

Kind regards.

Simply amazing!

I'm quite new to Macro photography myself and although I don't have a lens as good as yours I do what I can with my 60mm Nikon Macro. My aim is to produce a photo 50% as good as this!

I rate pictures quite harshly on here (many people rate 4/4 even they think a picture is rubbish through fear of receiving negative ratings)) - not because I think I'm an expert but I rate honestly and from the heart without fear that those users whose pictures I rate negativelty might rate my pictures as equally bad, perhaps underservedly. Your picture is the first I have ever rated 7/7 for both aesthetics and originality. So regardless of whether you're hung up on ratings or not, in my opinion, this is one of the best photos I have seen on photo.net and I salute you, sir.

Regards, and good luck with your future works

Ted

Can a D80 with a 105mm micro VR take this picture? Excellent Picture BTW.

Thanks,

Dan

Hi Cyrus

Nice mega macro. :))

I think you can quite safely ignore people who critique the photographer with some off the wall notions. He should read a few of your critiques and have a good look through your portfolio. But, nevermind, I think you know we value your expertise and the time you take to share it... we being quite a lot of us!

Congratulations on having this appear on the front page a day or two ago.

I can't believe those toes of the bee... they look rather like horses hoofs. Who knew? Who would ever get that close to a bee to try see that, and yet here it is!

Perfect DOF, too.

I am a bee keeper, and I'm fascinated by this photograph. Is the original photo of the complete bee? Did you crop the photo? Is the complete photo available? Do you have any close up photographs of bees that contain the whole bee?
