A Quiet Spot

mike_stemberg

This was lovingly put together from about 3 or 4 separate images from the time when things like auto-bracketing or the use of tripods were concepts not quite in my working vocabularly.

Thank you Antanas and Hekate..

.. it's a pity I didn't have a decent camera with me at the time. I will try and find and revisit this old chapel sometime ....?

The light effect is very good!

I would cut out the columns on the right side and it will gives dark and bright parts in diagonal, IMO.

One of the images that captured my eyes in your portfolio. Very well exposed of the dark Chapel with perfect lighting to give a sombre mood. The colours on the stained glass windows also very well captured. Nice work, Mike.

Nice mood. I'm not sure I'd crop off the right hand side as one of the previous comments suggests. I think you need that there. Detail and highlights are good off that dark wood. However, On the right third of the image, there appears to be something like a trail of water droplets. No doubt it is highlights off of a piece of wood detailing. They are a little distracting. I'd remove them in PS starting just at the bottom of the large stained glass window in the background. May I ask where this was taken?

Marc this was a chapel attached to one of the probably one of the smaller colleges in Oxford (U.K.). I have been back there once to try and find this college, but will have to go there again....soon. You are actually literally seeing the whole of this tiny chapel.

It is always a pleasant surprise when one of one's 'old' images is noticed and commented on! Thank you Ron, and to all you other wonderful people. This image is kinda important to me, 'cos this was one of the images taken around the time when I decided to take 'photography' a bit more seriously.

PS.I still have it on my agenda to try and find this little chapel again in Oxford amongst the 40 or 50 colleges there.

... love the way it is dominated by the warm tones of the wood and the cooler tones of the stained glass. Very fine work here and I'm glad you rescued the shot.

Dennis, I am truly honoured to get an appreciative comment from such a photographer such as yourself! Thank you.

This image was taken on a non SLR Fuji, and at a time when things like shutter or aperture exposure bracketing etc. were ideas that were not absorbed into my shooting pattern. I didnt even own a tripod at the time. I am yet to go find and re-shoot this lovley little chapel again......with a tripod this time!
