Just Another Day at the Beach

A couple enjoying the beach in August. In early morning you can have it all to yourself. He's reading a book while his companion is interested in the boat/water. Neither seems very interested in the other at the moment.

When it is too cold to get motivated to go outside, I go though film I have not yet scanned. This is a crop of an 8x10 chrome. How many times do I have to learn the same lesson before I know to avoid it?

I made the mistake of trying to use a polarizer on a wide angle lens with highly polarized light. Bad move. You will note the upper right is more polarized than the left side. Uneven skies. Yuck. The original is much worse than this. I corrected the falloff a bit in PS and I cropped about 40% of the original image.

Oh, and here is a detail (5000 dpi @ 100% unsharpened) of the original. I am focusing in on him in order to not appear too voyeuristic. He's about 175 feet away. Can anyone tell me what book he is reading? Just kidding. Maybe if I had focused better or not stopped down so much.

If I had to chose, this would be my favourite. I dont know how different your recollection of the scene is colorwise, but the green water is nice as distinct layer between the beach and sky. Great cloudscape, almost 3D looking. The lone couple is more interesting as compared to the busy scene 5 minutes later.

This is a photo that should be enjoyed as large print hanging on the wall, the beholder can discover more and more details, examining more closely
