leroy laverman 0 Posted January 27, 2007 I would crop tighter on the right and add more room on the left (if you can). Compositionally it's usually best to move the subject out of the center. The rule of thirds applies here. I should really be a suggestion of thirds since sometimes it better to break the rules... Thanks of sharing. Link to comment

stp 6 Posted January 27, 2007 Nice shot. I agree with Leroy and Tommy. The space behind the heron is dead space and is not contributing anything to the image. The space in front of the heron is active because the heron is looking into it. Therefore, I would either pan the camera to the left or (with this image) crop on the right (perhaps enough to largely remove that tuft of vegetation in the background. This might convert to a vertical, in which case you may want to crop even more on the right and a bit on the left. Link to comment
