arash khoshghadam 0 Posted January 26, 2007 Your shot of this landscape is splendid both in terms of graphic elements, color, and mood. compoitionally speaking, I belive your shot is a success. I can see a focal point ( the perfectly shaped tree contrasting against other less definitely shaped trees behind it). The rythm of the similar elements is vary pleasant. The empty foreground is anice resting area for the focal point and puts emphasis on its shape since half of the trunk is vertical placed against the horizontal flow of the line of the land going across the frame, but I like to argue the amount of the bleak foreground. Its excessiveness is boring to the eyes. you could cropp a little of the bottom to place the land on the lower 1/3 of the frame. The balance is good as a small area of fuzziness can balance a large less complicated area ( balance through texture). The focal point leads the eyes toward the magnificent sky displaying complementary color scheme inducing vividness that stands opposing to the dullness of the foreground which has created the mood- The coldness and desolation. What I fail to understand is the connection between what I see in your image and the word 'capricious' ( governed or charactrized by caprice (a sudden usually unpredictable condition, change, or series of changes), impulsive, inconsistant, unpredictable). I think your shot fails to convey that concept effectively. Although the juxtaposition of complementary colors is discordant and induce unstability, but this is a subtle charactristic in your shot that molds into the overal composition and presence of elements and get subdued. As Ansel Adams puts it " a photo is looked at and seldom looked into" The overal feeling dominating your shot is, as I have mentioned, desolation and coldness. Link to comment

jana 1 Posted January 26, 2007 thank You all for Your kind comments. Arash, thank You for Your very thorough analysis of the image. "Capricious " means for me here - a winter that displays colours instead of the white snow. Jana Link to comment

jan_piller 0 Posted January 26, 2007 Wow..wow. This is gorgeous! The colours you have captured here are like none I have ever seen! This image makes me want to look deeper and deeper into it - wondering what's over the hill waiting in the mist at the bottom. Very nicely captured! Link to comment

maria hrabinska 0 Posted January 27, 2007 A beautiful winter shot, Jana, also without snow and a from a country without mountains.I like the position of the tree in the middle attracting little more attention than other trees, and of course the soft colors (sunset) in the background.ahoj, maria Link to comment

markboyer 0 Posted January 28, 2007 An extraordinarily stunning shot; just about perfect, I'd say. The central tree is a magnet for the eye; the view then fans out as if through the branches themselves, through to the pastel sky. Link to comment
