Still Life study - Fading Tulips

It's the flowers that make this, rather than the photo - I'd give 6&7 for the flowers, but 4&4 for the photo. Harsh but fair.

Interesting viewpoint, Bonnet. I'd offer an alternative view to your "harsh but fair" critique.

 

The flowers had previously enjoyed many days of tumescent glory, but were here fading and dying. They slipped into total darkness and were as nothing.

 

I photographed them here in that darkness, lighting each flowerhead, each petal, with a small, hand-held light. Eighteen shots in total were taken, each highlighting a different facet of the fading blooms. These 18 pictures were then merged to form a single composite view. Great care was taken to balance the brightness and contrast of each of the 18 pictures to ensure that the final image had the right feel.

 

The flowers were beautiful, but surely part of that beauty was what was captured as they died?
