dave_dube 10 Posted January 21, 2007 Oh Rachel, so close to a great photo. Can you mask the blown highlights on the dress (lower left)?Great idea and great composition. The font and framing is terrific. Now, just reduce the highlights on the dress and it will be a terrific photo.Warm Regards, Dave Link to comment
jayme 0 Posted January 22, 2007 Wonderful composition. I have to agree about the blown areas, but if you took this in Raw format, you may be able to do a double exposure overlay to create a natural looking image. I really like the light streak, really creates the mood. Well seen! Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted January 22, 2007 I appreciate the honesty with this image. Unfortunately, this was from my first wedding ever and I didn't shoot it in RAW. I also don't have anything but photoshop elements. Is there still something I can do, or is this just going to have to stay how it is? Link to comment
dave_dube 10 Posted January 23, 2007 Jayme is the Pro with this type of photo and it's presentation. Regarding the editing, I have E4 but haven't really used it. I opened your photo and you will find the burn, dodge, sharpen and blur radio buttons on the bottom left toolbar. I used some quick adjustments, let's see how it came out.Dave Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted January 25, 2007 Thank you, Dave, for taking the time to help this little problem child of mine out. I like the edit. I'll get better (at both post and actually taking a decent shot from the get-go). Until then, it's great to have people like you and Jayme here on PN to share your expertise. :o) Link to comment
sansmeat 1 Posted January 27, 2007 I think this is also a great shot except for the blown highlights. Here is my down and dirty (no more than 2 minutes) attempt. Surely with more care a better result could be achieved but you get an idea of what could be. I hope you approve... :) ~b~ Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted January 28, 2007 Thanks Bryon. I can't believe you got the detail to come out in the left side of the dress. Great work! Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted February 18, 2007 Critique only please. Ratings don't mean a whole lot :o) Link to comment
jessica_allison1 0 Posted February 19, 2007 Rachel, not sure why your posting for a comment without reworking your image. You seem to have already receive some great suggestions with thumnails so...Jessica Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted February 19, 2007 If we're being honest, here, I need more space to add more pictures and you can't get more space without requesting critiques. I intended to do that in the beginning, but started getting comments right away. On that note, I checked out your portfolio and I noticed you don't have any photos posted at all. Not sure why you're commenting on others' work without contributing to the forum. I hope you change your mind and share with us. :o) Link to comment
jessica_allison1 0 Posted February 24, 2007 Rachel, no I haven't had photos posted and sincerly don't know what difference that would make. I'll make a wild guess that most people that purchase photos for their office or home, don't take photos other than just family or vacation snapshots. They are being critics by purchasing the photos they like, that's their commentary. If you wander around PN, you'll see that some of the most knowledgable critics, don't post photos. It's hard to be constructive and honest without narrow minded individuals just plain responding with anger and hate. Now, I tend to learn and study what I'm about to do before jumping in with both feet. I actually read and study before using my camera (or, as they use to say, before trying to program my VCR).The thing that confuses me most is, why do PN members feel that someone needs to take earth shattering and stunning photos to have indepth knowlege about photography?Jessica Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted February 25, 2007 Jessica, Photos on your site would give you an ounce of credibility, which I think in this case is something you need right now. This isn't intended to be harsh or to offend you in any way, so I hope I don't give off the wrong vibe here, but I'm not interested in critiques from people on this site who just "purchase photos for their office or home" and like it but don't know why. I'm looking for the why here. If I just wanted the average joe's opinions, I would never post anything on pn. I would just go down the street and ask the bum on the sidewalk. It's up to you, but posting even one image will allow people to leave feedback on YOUR site/folio instead of you just crowding theirs. Again, I'm not trying to start an argument; just voicing my concern about what pn is supposed to be about. Link to comment
jessica_allison1 0 Posted February 25, 2007 Rachel, looking at your portfolio, your market is the average Joe and Jane. It's too bad you don't seem to care about their opinions, they are the ones you are serving.Rachel, don't you think there's a reason I've spent my time typing you comments.Oh, I did post a couple of my photos, Jessica Link to comment
dave_dube 10 Posted February 26, 2007 WOW Rachel; I'm just, well ~ amazed at your comments and feelings. Photographers are in the "service" business. We are attempting to please others. In your case, those that you take photos for but, your don't care?I think that you and Jessica need to hug and get beyond this. I really don't think you were expressing your true feelings (at least I hope you weren't).Jessica did make some good points, at least from my view. She must see some potential in you so, grow from comments that others make.Regards, Dave Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted April 6, 2007 Hello, Dave. There is more to this than meets the eye, so I hope you don't judge either of us too harshly over this. I have stopped bickering back and forth with her, but my opinion stands firm. Regards, Rachel Link to comment
