ken schwarz 0 Posted January 19, 2007 On Saturday afternoons, the Ginza, one of Tokyo's major shopping and nightlife districts, is closed to traffic, and families like this one go to town. While the cultural cues are obvious to Japanese viewers, I'm interested in finding out how universally this picture conveys a sense of place and time as a memory of childhood. Link to comment
shadowcatcher 0 Posted January 27, 2008 Dear Ken, The answer is very well, I live in London but worked in Tokyo for a while and this reminds me of being there. However, take away the faces and the picture could be anywhere, so job done. I just love the ubiquitous Burberry handbag in the shot, gives the Japanese away everytime. All in all, an interesting and lovely shot, one that makes you stop that little bit longer than the usual passing glances we give photographs. That's what makes good pictures, great pictures. Best wishes Kev Link to comment
