I encountered this anonymous homeless person sometime about 12:30 AM,while on an outing to capture the beauty of Denver in winter. A weekafter the blizzard of 2006, this picture was taken during the winter'ssecond major snowstorm.

Please contribute your thoughts and ratings. I really appreciate yourinput.

Thanks,

Trevorhttp://counter.hitslink.com/tms1117bulletins-213.gif

A moment caught that speaks of human deprivation with the elements and here in America. We can only wonder why he or she didn't seek shelter provided by some charitable organization. I hope the person made it through the night. Your photo is a good reminder of how so many of us are blessed with a warm bed during the winter nights.

Thank you for taking it and sharing it with us. 7/7

Excellent image and a dreadful social plague. I think you should try to work a little more with the B&W conversion as the mid tones seem a little bit "posterized".

You can feel what that poor person must have been going through. But Please keep that snow out there. Keep up the good work.

It is ironic how such a beautiful scene can create such pathos. I daresay you were enjoying the weather conditions more than this individual. It even appears as though there is a pair of crutches on the bench. What a sad state of affairs. On a compositional note, the person appears to be a continuation of the tree and is almost unnoticeable at first glance. The irony speaks louder than words.

Great. I'm shivering with the cold just looking at it.

I also echo another's comment that the image looks not only converted to b/w but also posterized, particularly noticable in the tree branches. Was that deliberate?

Good work.

Trevor, Very moving, it shows a gaping hole in the fabric of American society, your photo deserves to be expanded to an audience beyond photo.net. Thanks for sharing.

Beautifully composed and exposed. Strange that such a beautiful photograph can be such a savage indictment against a society.

Thank you all for your input. To address a technical issue: I did not intend for the B&W conversion to have a posterized appearance. I should admit that the tones of my display differ from most as my monitor is old and a bit dark.

Here is the original image, unedited except for size and a minor sharpen:

Again, thank you.

I like the original even better--- the light's colors seem festive, the subject clearly less festive.

Either image: great catch and well executed.
