kali goddess 0 Posted January 4, 2007 I'd lighten the eyes and teeth just a little (in photoshop). Otherwise very nice portrait. Link to comment

tylerwind 0 Posted January 4, 2007 Great pose and wonderful exposure, Tom! I don't know portraits very well but I'd say this looks like anything but a "first attempt" in my opinion. I continue to be amazed at where all of you find girls this pretty...either you guys just have beautiful girls where you live or else you are really a photography master at showing the beauty of a person (probably a little of both). :) Great shot though...I don't see many portraits I like but I look forward to seeing more from you! ivan_dzo 1 Posted January 4, 2007 "Gee whiz wonderful portrait" comments don't help you improve. But yes it is a good attempt and a nice model. I like the choice of contrasting background to her top colour. The skin tones are well handled and the tilted head pose and facial expression are great. Things I like less are the right arm going out of frame. More importantly the lighting. You've used two lights yet got almost flat lighting. This sort of beauty lighting is ok for models and fashion shots but rather dull for portraits of real people. Using a one stop different between your main and fill light would give a 1:3 lighting ratio which gives better facial modelling. The lighting on the background is great, but I'd probably add a hair light onto the top of her head to pick her out from the background a little more. Hoping to provide constructive criticism. Guest Guest Posted January 5, 2007 Thank you for providing Tom with some constructive criticism. I think what you said is exactly what this portrait needs. Tom - Ivan's totally right. This is a nice portrait with lots of potential, but the lighting could be better with just a little tweeking. Good luck! :o) Link to comment
