An apple a day. An exercise with one light.

This was done as an exercise. I've done little still life and wanted to explore the use of reflectors.

I've done few still lifes and wanted to explore the use of one light

and reflectors. I kept it purposely simple to see the effects.

Comments welcome.

I don't know if the reflection in knife was part of the purpose. I personally would like to see the apple moved down and right to position itself in a rule of third power point. The one hot spot on apple is overpowering when I look at the entire image so I would tone down the flash. The dark background is very dramatic and clean. I think you're on to something, just needs reworked. Ilona Wellman was queen of this sort of thing. Here is a link to her work:

Karen, Thanks for the comment. Its rare to get constructive critiques these days. Yes, the refle3ction on the knife was on purpose. I should however spent a little time cleaning it up and polishing it. I tried moving the image down and to the right, but with the knife it took on a more stagnant look. I was really having trouble with the hot spot, I even considered coating the apple with a non glossy lacquer. I'll have to work it over with PS. I checked out Ms. Wellman's images, very impressive. She also seems to like those black backgrounds.

Thanks again, Peter
