I'm starting to work with bird dogs in the field, and striving for

that tricky zone that's somewhere between the action shot and the

portrait. To people who know and work with bird dogs, there are

subtleties that a wider audience may not sense at first glance. I

may be too close to the subjects to be able to see it from a non-

hunter's perspective, so thanks in advance for comments. And yes,

the partridge made a fine meal.

Looks good. A tight color palette range and you have the look of steadfast obedience in the spaniel's eyes and a properly "soft" mouthy. And dutiful death in the Chukar. Looks like they used #6 shot.

I never had the luxury of a dog when I hunted chukar in the mojave. I had to hike up and down mountains to find them until my legs got worn down to nubs. But chukar are the best of the quail / partridge birds for eating.

Matt, that is one gorgeous Brittany. My Max is coming up on 12 years old--he's mostly white with orange markings, comes from a line of show- and field-trial champions. Don't think I've ever known a finer, more stouthearted and intelligent dog.

I had intended to hunt him when he was a youngster, but ran out of convenient places to hunt and his training got sidetracked.

My sister had two; their stamina is just amazing. She runs them around a reservoir in a state park; they go literally for hours without stopping.

I really like all of your field dog photos, but this one is my favorite. It just sums up everything sporting dog, in warm tones.

This is what Brittany Spaniels were bred for. That dog looks just as happy as it can be, but still tightly linked to its master, watching.

I get a chuckle every time I see this and some others of yours in this vein.

I don't know anybody better at this, Matt.

Okay, I'll admit I'm not a photographer, but your dog is absolutely amazing! Great grip on the bird! The muscle tone is probably some of the best that I've ever seen on a Brittany in my life. Not too bulky but definitely a strong driving dog.

Your dog is probably one of the closest examples to a perfect Brittany I have ever seen. Yes there are a few show faults, but the over all package is absolutely staggering!
