Don't get distracted by the edit, it's VERY close to your own and you have already done an excellent job of capturing this. Your flash work is right on the mark and your colors are rich and plentyfull. I just like a bit more of the ambiant light that's all.

Cyrus, you remain the master and beautiful job on the edits! The crop is really great!

(fyi: I had stopped editing photos for posting because it became obvious that the screen I am using is in need of calibration especially when it comes to darks and light. I keep making things darker than they should be(they appear ok on this screen but dark on everyone else's). When I get finally get back home in a month or so, I hope to do some serious editing and posting on my screen there as it is calibrated.)

Cyrus, I opened it up fine but probably need a verbal description overlayed the image as to what I should see. Some of the darks were very hard to see any difference in value. The monitor had to be at exactly the rate angle to make out a difference. It seemed that the whites and darks had big patches that were the same and perhaps were supposed to be different values. (235 vs 255? for example)

First, yes, if you are using a laptop or an LCD dispaly, you have to look at it at the right angle, head on. You also have to illiminate any direct light or even ambiant light on the monitor. The less light interference on the monitor, the better.

Second, you should see three raws of patches. ( 9 in the first row, 5 in the second and 9 in the third. Some of the patches on the extremes should be barely distinguishable but in a good calibrated monitor, should see be able to make them out. If you can make out 7 patches in the first and the third row, your monitor is off but not that badly but if you see less than that, then you are way off.

If you think your monitor is off, the first and best thing to do is to go to: start/comtrol pannel and look for Adobe Gamma and follow the instruction. It's easy to do. When done, it asks if you want to save the setting, save it and give it a date such as "cal-04-07". You probably won't need this saving but go ahead and save it anyway. hope that helps and please let me know.

Cheers.

Cyrus,

I've got 6 in the first row, 5 in the second and 9 in the last but realistically all the whites are the same value. The whites are barely distinguisable in the second row as well, but there is a slight difference.

I'll try using the adobe gamma later this week and will let you know how it turns out
