A morning of practice and I've got it, thanks to your mini lesson. This was shot with Exp 1/320 @ f/2.8, exp comp +0.67, a whooping ISO of 1600 with a focal length of 200mm (heavy cloud cover). Hardly any noise and didn't have to use any noise removal app. Normally, attempting to remove noise just at 800 blurs the detail too much.

Inside, I've taken some great photos of my wife at ISO 2400 (H.3)approx and it looks like they were shot with an ISO of 200. Also, this is without the NR feature turned on (it only washes out the photo anyways).

Very nice shot. I was trying to capture something similar, but always hesitant to go to 1600. How did you get no noise with this?

First off, I hope you are having a great holiday season and I do wish you and your family a very happy and productive 2007.

Dave, the result you have obtain here is impressive and let me also mention that you, yourself , are an impressive man as well!
What this does for me also is the fact that I can retrieve more shadow detail from the file at the time f conversion. This is so because by over exposing the shot, it gives more exposure time to the darker areas and hence more data recorded.

I am amazed & impressed by this 'noiseless' image at ISO1600. Besides that, the composition & colours are great too. Hmm, i would sure go read up Cyrus's tips on this.

There are other specific parameters as I shared with Matt when using the D200 at 1600. You need to boost the WB + 1 or 2 and there can't be heavy shadow areas and of course the EC has to be up 2 or 3 clicks. The blue channel tends to get most of the noise, if the photo doesn't present itself warm, I use the WB to make it warmer. I only did testing that one morning so this may have more variables that I haven't explored as of yet.
