petewelsh 0 Posted December 11, 2006 I am not too sure what I am expecting from this forum as I am very new to all this aperture and exposure stuff and I do not understand a lot of the technical talk that goes on in here but I have taken the plunge and decided to throw in one or two pictures I have tested a few settings out on. I think the main thing I need to learn is the difference between a good photograph and a "snapshot". I am a firm believer in learning by doing and listening to more experienced people. The River was flooded and many branches had been broken, I spotted these twigs washed up near the bank set a longish exposure and shot the picture.. Please offer any advice you see fit .. Do I give up yet? :) Link to comment
as de beer 0 Posted December 11, 2006 Welcome to p.n.! I can't tell you much about photography, but something about p.n. Do not worry too much about the 3/3 ratings. Keep going, post your best work, and wait for the p.n. people who matter to comment on your photos. Best, asdeb Link to comment
stuart adams 0 Posted December 11, 2006 Hi Peter Like you I am new as well and not to hot on the techi bits yet but I have found that there are a lot of people willing to help I have posted quite a few photos up now and have been quite suprised with the results and the ratings. I put on the photos that I am happy with personally to see what others think and hopefully for the more experienced photographers out there to point out where I can improve my work. Don't give up, keep on pressing that button. Good Luck Stuart Link to comment
petewelsh 0 Posted December 11, 2006 Thanks very much for your encouragement, after looking through these forums and this site and seeing the quality and standards I do not expect to "score" many points for a long time to come....... And in all honesty and in the nicest possible way, I am more interested in making use of the comments and tips made on the pictures, these are of far more value to me and will be greatly appreciated whether good or bad. Emmanuel Enyinwa 0 Posted December 14, 2006 I actually like this picture, even though it is getting slaughtered in the ratings. That's the funny thing about pnet. You can have the best pictures get the lowest ratings while what you consider pedestrian images get in the "top photos" category. You just have to take the good with the bad. Congratulations on a creative image, though. It's not a picture everybody jumps to take, but you handled it well. Link to comment
