knut_hoftun_knudsen 0 Posted February 4, 2007 Hi. You might have mentioned that this picture is an exact copy of my Tarantel made back in 2002 Great if some of my pictures might give some inspirations, but you have "stolen" my idea 100% Knut Hoftun Knudsen Proff. thomas_doering 0 Posted February 5, 2007 Hi Knut, your picture is already linked some comments above:-) I saw this idea on several sites (not only yours), some very similar to this version, some with variations. So I really cannot say who was the "originator" or who made a "copy". Nevertheless, I found the idea worth trying by myself. If you see yourself as originator, I hope you understand it as a compliment. BTW: I stopped counting the number of copies of "my" ideas, as I don't know for sure, if the idea wasn't there before. This one (http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=5273973) is from July 2006. Meanwhile I saw some copies, even here on photo.net. I did not see this idea before my picture, but perhaps someone else did. So I don't want to call the other version "stolen". Regards, Thomas Link to comment
knut_hoftun_knudsen 0 Posted February 5, 2007 It would be very interesting if you gave me some links to other versions you refer to of this picture taken before 2002 Link to comment
knut_hoftun_knudsen 0 Posted February 5, 2007 Getting rates for "origniality" for copying others authors, I think is wrong...why not write that you have made a copy or beeing inspired of pictures you have found.....and refereing to the sites... Link to comment
thomas_doering 0 Posted February 6, 2007 Well, Knut, please don't get me wrong, but do YOU write a list of refering sites that inspired you under your photos? Or do you believe you have not been inspired? Within all the photos on this site here I saw at most a handful of photos, whose idea was new to me. Everything else was obviously inspired by other pictures without linking to them. Do you think, the idea of this top rated picture (http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=5008860) is new? It isn't. I know the "original", but I will not write it, because: Who cares? Regarding the rates for originality: Is it really important, if it is one point or seven points or a rate at all? I will not even get a coffee for free for the rates. And it is okay, as I do photography for fun, not for money. Regards, Thomas Link to comment
knut_hoftun_knudsen 0 Posted February 6, 2007 I am not talking about "inspiering" ....I am talking of copying other works 100%...and that is what you have done with my picture, thats two totaly different things....keep on copy if that is your style. Link to comment
thomas_doering 0 Posted February 7, 2007 Thank you for worrying about my style. In my opinion it is not a copy, but rather an improved version regarding light setting, croppings, chosen focal length, symmetry, perspective and contrasts. Furthermore, I made this picture with my camera and my equipment in my studio. As I told you, some of my ideas have also been copied, but I'm not going to blame the others, as they just realized the same idea. But if you feel better by this: Ladies and gentlemen, the pose on the picture you are watching has also been photographed by professional photographer Knut Hoftun Knudsen (http://www.photosig.com/go/photos/view?id=99115&forward=viewportfolio), which inspired me, a small hobby photographer, to try this photo by myself. I hope, that will do. Regards, Thomas Link to comment
justmypix 0 Posted February 8, 2007 this one is a copy - but I always like when the result is better than the "original". Lights and shades are more pleasing for me and the positioning of the models is more accurate. Finally the surrounding space meets my taste. Keep on "copying" - it's a long way from an idea to the result. Maybe that some photographers are proud if another seizes an idea, but it might be unpleasent to accept, that another did it probably better .... Greets Frank Link to comment
as de beer 0 Posted February 27, 2007 O, shucks, so it turned out that one has to pay Knut $25 to see his version. It is indeed as the advert in the top right hand corner says: The joke of the day. Well, I am happy to see Thomas' version for free on p.n. Link to comment
fujimike 0 Posted April 26, 2007 You have some amazing work especially since you are a recent photographer. This is my favourite. Very original and excellent use of light. Clever work, an inspiration. 7/7 Link to comment

jmarkalis 0 Posted April 26, 2007 It doesn't really "matter" that much who's idea was in the first place but how well executed it is. And this is one is rather different from the "original". The later reminds more of a tarantula since there is no head on the body. Technically is excellent(maybe the second girl should have her legs closed more-I can see a "stripe" of light back there). On the other hand Knut has a point and probably, if you knew about his image, you could have mention it as an inspiration or second attempt at it. Still you deserve kudos for your effort. After all as Keith Richards said "if you are gonna steal steal with grace"! Link to comment
