adam bellinger 0 Posted December 10, 2006 Hi all, I am an undergrad student studying photography. This photo represents my first attempt at using the zone system. How did I do? Link to comment
alfonso_momene 4 Posted December 10, 2006 Although is hard to evaluate a zone system photograph watching it on screen, looks pretty much like you got the whole scale there. About the photo itself its a good one. Best Wishes Alf Link to comment
kiro 1 Posted December 11, 2006 Hi - it's hard to say whether you did a good job at the zone system or not, as that is really about what you envisioned in the image. As the other commentor said, you've got a full tonal scale going here, so from that standpoint, yes you achieved what you wanted. However the real test of the zone system is whether or not the image looks how *you* wanted it to look. Did you mean for the black of her underwear to be zone I - II? Did you mean for the silk to fade from zone V to zone III? Did you mean for the lace to go up from zone V to VIII? If so, then you did a good job. If not, then you may to revisit your metering and practice practice practice. You may also want, to supplement your class, to pick up Ansel Adamns "The Negative". About 50% is applicable to digital work, and it's very informative in terms of visualization and getting what you want out of an image. Overall, I feel this is a wonderful image - great execution and style. Link to comment
