Excellent elements but it is not sharp enough for print media use. It would also need another 1/2 stops light. Credits must be given for you having the trouble of finding a good spot and nice light. It's really the founding stone for a good motorsport shot.

The problem with ultra ambitious panning is that it gets quite statistical. The longer exposure the more you need to shoot to get one perfect. I have given a piece of advice when asked about panning with cars: Start with a bit faster than 1/focal length (say you have 250 mm, start with 1/350...1/500), take the safe shots and then go gradually for longer exposures and let your ambition ruin more and more of the shots. If lady luck isn't with you that day at least you got the safe ones.

You've probably noticed that it is very easy to a bit late with firing when panning. You turn and turn but if you glimpse the best spot thru finder you are already late. I'd say this shot is about 1/10...2/10th of a sec late. Hi fps of course solves this problem, you just machine gun with 1D MkII. Also, always be aware of the background. The more relaxed it is the more visual the photo and the target pops out better. This is pretty good in that aspect. The verticals and the oranges don't look nice but it's not always for the photog to decide.

Good luck!

Thanks again Juha for the coments, normally my panning shots consist of a car with a speaker tower going through the middle of it where I hit the button at the wrong time, at least with the marshal in the background I can shoot him so he'll lay down.
