jay_patel 0 Posted December 7, 2006 Location: Pebble Beach, CA. Website: http://www.jaypatelphotography.com. I was experimenting with a new wide angle lens when I notice that the sky was putting on a show of its own. So, I decided to keep a few images that I shot that day. All comments are welcome. andreipfeiffer 0 Posted December 7, 2006 Nice moment captured ... great color tones and well-controlled exposure. I would have put the water in the right corner concerning the composition. It's nice that you composed more land than sky. Regards and congrats. Link to comment

vincetylor 0 Posted December 8, 2006 A nice assortment of elemments in this Jay. That "new wide-angle lens" sure captured it all too. Exactly how wide is it by the way? VERY rarely do I use anything other than super wide when shooting seascapes nowadays. My only suggestion would have been to perhaps use a polarizer as well to reduce some glare. Though I've found that you may lose a little of that "wideness" when using both filters (ND and polarizer) at the same time, the results are often worth the trade-off from my experience. Just a thought. Nice stuff here! Link to comment
jay_patel 0 Posted December 9, 2006 This was shot at 16mm. I had no other filter on the wide angle lense other then the ND filter. I have tried using the polarizer on the wide angle lens, but I dont the uneven polarizing effect it produces in the sky, so I have stopped using it on the super wide angle lense. Thanks for the comments. Link to comment
rajeevthomas 1 Posted December 9, 2006 Long time no see Jay! Beautiful stuff here, foreground colors and the nature's drama on the sky are beautiful. Have to look in your folder to see what else I have missed.. :) regards, Rajeev Link to comment
vincetylor 0 Posted December 9, 2006 Aloha Jay. I am a bit surprised to hear you forgo using a polarizer with a wide-angle lens like this. The uneven effects can be a concern in occasional blue-sky conditions, but I have never seen it a negative distraction on sunset or seascape images like this. Even with uneven blue-skies, the polarizing effects in my opinion are still worth having that issue as a trade-off, which can be dealt with satisfactorily oftentimes through Photoshop. In this case here, I believe it would have had a very positive effect reducing some of the glare and adding a little more separation and pop to the image. I'd just suggest that you try shooting a scene like this with and without the polarizer in each and every case if possible. It never hurts to have a few different looks from the same location when you finally get to the editing. Just my opinion here; but one that I have a learned from experience can really make a difference. Have a good one Jay. Link to comment

andreipfeiffer 0 Posted December 11, 2006 Damn right ... it isn't a crime to shoot more frames ... but to present only one which you consider the best ... it is a crime to shoot one scene, and present it in different ways (: Link to comment
paula grenside 0 Posted January 23, 2007 The composition is superb as well as the colors. Another gem in your collection. Link to comment
anish 0 Posted April 4, 2007 I would disagree with the suggestion for a polarizer here. I think the loss of reflection in the pool would hurt this image quite a bit, as the pool's color would then essentially blend in with the rest of the foreground. As is, the soft reflection on the pool not only allows it to stand out against the rugged rocks, but also creates a nice balance with the soft sky. Anish Link to comment
