some have spoken of this as an erotic work. that view is subjective. what might overstretch the boundaries of subjectivity is how beautiful the composition is. the tones are breathtakingly flattering. there is little to criticize here. i don't find this erotic. i do find it beautiful.

I have died and gone to heaven, this is staggering. Everything from the lighting, the clothing, the pose, but most of all just how utterly feminine this is. She is one beautiful woman. I am speechless, and that's very rare for me.

Wonderfully simple and expressive portrait. One softbox, one spot and a really interesting face. Goddess,well. I

don't know for sure, but I guess she could have played the Ava Gardner part in One Touch of Venus, a Turner Movie

classic from the ca '50 era. In the case of the arm and hand all I can say is that they seem natural and fitting

to the pose. Yeah I might have tried some with the head crown in the picture and some without and used my sense

of individual attention to decide how it all balances. I doubt I can add anything profound to improve this beyond

the kind of fiddling that is worth a shot and what one does and tries based on above comments I guess. The

'gestalt' (ooh first time I got to use that word in months,ha ha:-) ) makes it just lovely to the nth power. My

compliments to the photographer. gs

I strongly and respectfully disagree with Mr. Meyer, when he says the name of the photograph jumps to conclusions, rather than giving the chance to the viewer to make their own judgement. (I am not quoting, of course, merely paraphrasing). Indeed, the name of the photograph jumps to the very conclusion the photographer deemed prudent jumping. Why would that be, by the way? Well, perhaps because he was holding the photographic instrument, because he was beholding the subject he probably thought of as a goddess, or maybe just because he thought the name would cause controversy. The point is, I do not really believe judging the name of a photograph instead of its strengths and weaknesses quite matches the expectations of an objective artistic criticism. Was not it overwhelmingly easier to simply ignore the name and focus on the -Photograph- ?? I do believe the site is intended for the viewing of photographs, not for the judging of titles.

 

Tell you the truth... I do not really care about the name, or whether she is or not a goddess... the photograph is simply and amazingly breath-taking. A master management of light and b-w tones. Best regards...!!

The lady is depicted very tangible. At first, seeing the title, I had to jump to the image to see bigger version because it shows something new, some new Goddess in a black robe. What a magnificent look she has. She eats man by her look. There is something animal in her look. The hand is in harmony with the whole image, with the whole pose and gesture. The gesture is perfectly delicate and passionate, but cold, after all.

She is a synonym for the cold beauty.

 

The light matches, for me. I like this two halves of black and gray that divide just above her head. There is significance in that, but I don't know what does it mean. Except it fulfilled the whole image, somehow.

 

It is a mysterious piece of art, definitely.

This image gives me goose bumps. It's an excellent choice for a POW! A few details that MAKE the image for me: her slightly raised eyebrow...giving the sense of strenght and "danger", contrasted by the gentleness of the flowing hair and her own hand touching her face. Her partially exposed breast and the long hair makes me think of renaissance paintings and "goddess" concept. However, she is wearing a knit garment-very modern. I appreciate the realism of her skin and the minimal retouching. The woman depicted has the characteristics rarely found in one single person at the same time: strenght, sensuality, stunning beauty!

This image is most definitely fashion. It is a well executed photograph... however like most fashion photographs, I find it lacking in emotion. There is plenty of smoldering sexuality there... but would love to have seen you go further with this image, so that there is a real person beneath the image.

This is a great photo. The lighting is good, the background is non distracting. Excellent contrast to show dimension.

The Arm leads the viewer back up th the face which is most important to draw the observer back to the eyes of the

subject. My suggestions would be to change the hand position. If you could show less of the backhand of the model,

the outine of the model's face would be very dynamic. One other thing would be to have the model turn slightly

angular to the camera allowing more curve of her body unless this position was done intentionally to leave a mystical

guess as to the model's shape. Anyway it looks great. Excellent job.

It's a lovely photograph - the composition is excellent. It would have been better if the model had gazed directly at the camera lens instead of just off axis. The composition does not show the right arm which is kind of disturbing yet pleasing nevertheless. I like how the right breast is mostly visible but the nipple is covered - very sensual and suggestive! However the background and tonality suggests that this image has been digitally manipulated somehow as it looks unnatural.

Fantastic work. Nice shadow detail, hauntingly beautiful model. I wish I could photograph ridiculously good looking models like her all the time.

I love a lot about the photo... especially the shift from white to black that takes effect right in line with the part of her hair. --- That said, what I really want to say is ..... I'm a geologist, wanna trade jobs? Great shot and a great portfolio!

I am not normally impressed with portraits but this image goes beyond a mere portrait... it tells a story. I personally don't care how you got there - I am impressed.

Excellent composition.

Mr Tate notes a number of negatives , thats his respected opinion, however, the one I do concur with is the top of the models head being cropped off.

Beyond all that a wonderful image.

I think it's a portrait, nice one, yes, with a beautiful girl, yes, but as the initial comment said, it has something extra, that makes this one special, the lights, not the crop, not the hair, but the texture and the capture of the eyes maybe. I like it. But not a true fan of a portrait like this one, could be oerfect for a magazine.

In response to one critique that - "didn't mind the head cropping": I think it's more than acceptable, it's almost

neccessary. Although cliched, it works here - the shadowed background behind the illuminated side of the face,

contrasting the highlighted background behind the shadowed side of the face.Makes it looks better when it

is 'seamless'.Good choice. My only suggestion is to have exposed the full length of her fingers embrassing the

neck. If a softly closed hand is the feeling looked for, it might feel a tad more dramtic if some air [shadow] were

between hand and cheek, accenting the slightly curving knuckles.
