williammccarey 0 Posted December 1, 2006 Geez, what do you spread on that birch tree limb to get so many great birds stopping by? Again, I like the pose and I like the unobtrusive background. The Downy woodpeckers out here in sunshineville do not have a red cap and are more tan than white (not enough sunscreen I guess) Not sure what you need that 2x for. I have decided I'm dropping hints to Santa that a 400mm DO f/4 IS will be fine. It's half the weight (4 lbs) of the 500mm and will work easily with a 1.4X and even the 2X on my 1D Mark II. I like the optional convenience of carrying my camera and not having to lug a tripod for an eight pound lens. BTW, we have had frost for three days now. Daytime is not much better, staying below 68 every day. Winter is such a drag, don't you think? Link to comment

Dieter Schaefer 20,364 Posted December 10, 2006 I really like the shot of the bird; great detail and nice DOF. Unlike others, I find the background distracting and would work to remove the three branches. Link to comment
