Thank you my friend for the warm welcome and thank you for the visit as well.

The story behind this shot:

Walked to the basement to take the lawn mower to cut the grass in the back yard. as soon as I got out of the basement door, I found this spider behind the door in the back yard. Forgot about the grass and took him inside and put him on this plant. The bugger is a rather fast moving one and likes to hide underneath of leaves.

Anyway, I had my camera and the strobe handy(you see the flash head in his eyes) and started to photograph. It became a very frustrating shoot out as I ended up constantly moving and turning the plant around. Before I could manually focus, the guy had already moved elsewhere. I was able to take three or four shots and luckily this one came out to be the better one.

End of story and the lawn didn't get cut as it was already later in the day!

Cheers.

He saw you coming everytime! He seems to have four eyes. Or maybe those are the ears.

This compares very favourably with the one I showed you taken with the dentist's lens. Yes the reflections in the eyes!

I like the DOF on this one. It makes the spider's front in focus and the rest of it fade into its hiding space. I can imagine how frustrating it would be to try to catch it sitting still. Nice capture.

Is that ever eerie. I scroll back up to see it and the eyes move. accck!

Yes, he has four eye, imagine that!!
I left a long response on the other photo for you and I'm sure you are going to read it, you always do! ;)
Thanks for the visit and the comment.
Cheers.

What a flattering comment to receive from you. As you may know, this is a very small spider who was not in the mood for modeling!

Thanks for the visit,

Cheers.

I won't get this shot as I won't dare to take & move the spider in the 1st place. Your macro always wows one over witht the bright bg colours.

I really hope you're selling this stuff. If I was brave enough to hang this in my home, I would buy it! My husband's DEADLY afraid of the creepy, crawly kind though. Too bad.

Seriously, though. If you haven't already, you should think about submitting this to an art gallery or something. I've never seen macro work like this. Just amazing.

Hi Cyrus, I've been back to see this at least half a dozen times. I'm phobic about spiders, recently was trying to macro a large guy in the backyard. As I was daring myself to get closer my dog bounded toward me and the bugger jumped--mind you I'm looking through a macro lens at one of my greatest fears--

the result was one extreme shrill and my husband (indoors) thinking I was being abducted!

I've been back so many times as this is, once again, just superb. I've been searching both photo.net and the internet for macro's at this level and just can't find any. Checked a years worth of TRP's in the macro category, couldn't find this degree of magnification, clarity, dof, aesthetics anywhere. I must agree with Rachel that your work is gallery material. If I were to fault you on anything it is that you are too modest. Your sense of aesthetics coupled with your outstanding technical execution is second to none. I also commend you for your willingness to share your knowledge. There are many reasons people join photo.net, some for competitive reasons and others to learn, improve, and enjoy each others work. You're an absolute treasure for the latter.

Thank you my dear friend, you have left me speechless. what you have said in your comment, speakes so much more for yourself and your character first and foremost. I do hope we'll have more members like you who shows prejudice and judgement in their evaluations of other people's work instead of putting down copy cat ratings and comments.

Kind regards
