lonebearimages 0 Posted November 26, 2006 Wow! Kim, I really like this shot. Excellent composition, and the lighting just makes them glow against the dark background. Rich with detail. Superb capture. Best regards, Chris Link to comment
J. Perez 0 Posted November 27, 2006 Nice backlight on this one, Kim. I might make it a liitle more square crop by cropping off the top. Cheers, J Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted November 27, 2006 Thanks to everyone! J, I think you may be right on the cropping. Link to comment
kentb2 0 Posted November 27, 2006 Beautifully lit. The composition is fine but I would probably agree with the square crop. Excellent shot Kim. Link to comment

Guest Guest Posted November 29, 2006 Thank you Kent, Leann, Birte, and Huy! Leann, I don't know their proper name, so they have to be weeds! Birte, I hope you had fun; I've never been to that area. Thanks for visiting, everyone. Link to comment
tammysphotos 0 Posted November 29, 2006 Oh, Kim...this is a masterpiece. The backlighting is superb. Sure, you could crop but honestly, I think it looks fine as is. Hope all is well with you and your family. -Tammy Link to comment
susan stone 0 Posted December 5, 2006 These thistles make for wonderful compositions especially when back light is framing them with a warm golden glow. Well seen and exposed Kim. Dave Dube posted a similar image that I think you'd like too. Oh and I like your framing, adds just the right touch. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted December 6, 2006 Thanks Ken and Susan! Susan, is that what they are? I'm glad you like them. I'll see if I can find Dave's to look at. Link to comment
dave_dube 10 Posted December 8, 2006 WOW, quite a cluster. Glad I'm not living down wind to this bunch.I'm thinking this was an interesting and challenging capture, one you pulled off quite well I might add. I may be totally incorrect with what I'm going to say so, if I am, let me know and I will retract.Because of the difficulty with the exposure of the shot, you may have lightened in post to open up some of the shadows and mid tones. The biggest challenge for this photo is the water.I made some adjustments in 16 bits, let me know if your interested in what I did or if you want me to remove. Just thought the water might have more to offer, the thumbnail isn't very flattering due to it's size.Regards, Dave Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted December 11, 2006 Dave, thanks very much! I didn't lighten it, just increased contrast and cleaned it up. I know what you mean about the thumbnail, but in the lightened version the reflections in the water show more, and I didn't think they were very attractive. That's why I didn't lighten the water any. I have other photos of these weeds that show the pretty greens and blues of the water behind them...I just haven't gotten around to editing them yet. I just went for the contrast in this one. I don't know what 16 bits is, or if my Elements has that. And I would never ask anyone to remove a post unless it contained offensive language or something...I'm just happy to have critiques! I've learned sooo much here on PN from people such as yourself who will take the time to offer suggestions, so thank you! Link to comment
