kahkityoong 0 Posted November 19, 2006 This lovely bay has always been problematic at sunrise & sunset. However I was delighted on this visit to see the sunrise from a good position for numerous shots. Specifications : Gitzo tripod, f22, shutter 1.6 seconds, ISO 100, 3 stop hard ND grad held diagonally. RAW capture processed in Adobe lightroom 4.1. PS CS2 : curves, highlights, dodging and saturation. All adjustments very minor. What do you think of the flare I have left in at the top left corner? I could remove it but liked the effect. jlineen 5,688 Posted November 19, 2006 I'm reluctant to criticize, but as you have specifically asked, I would remove the flare. Link to comment
ffrank 0 Posted November 19, 2006 I love the sky and water. Great forground and colors. At first glance my eyes went straight to the flare. I personally would remove it, but great photo either way. Congratulations. Link to comment
armpro 0 Posted November 19, 2006 A stunning photo! My preference would be for removal too. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted November 19, 2006 Kah, very strong FG rocks form , a bit diagonaly to the line of them on the right which brings you in to the sun, like a round trip;-)) the sun's glow is balancing with its colors and lightness the somber heavy rocks.(The flur is not needed),well exposed, good details, nice image Link to comment
julio_segura_carmona1 4 Posted November 19, 2006 Excelente paisaje, perfecta luz y color, belleza de encuadre , gran composicion, saludos cordiales Kah. Link to comment
edward_wright1 0 Posted November 19, 2006 I also love the combination of sky, water and rocks. This is almost perfect if not for the flare, which your eyes go straight to first. Personally, because it does detract so much and is so easy to remove, I would remove it. Other than that this is a fantastic photo. Congrats. Link to comment
reginapagles 0 Posted November 19, 2006 Wow...what can I say, other than I dream of taking photos like this. Fabulous shot, like all your others. Thanks for the inspiration! Regina Link to comment

kahkityoong 0 Posted November 20, 2006 Thank you all. Your opinions are MUCH appreciated. It seems that the majority think the flare should go. I am heartened that this image was well received as I think this is one of my best; I doubt I could have nailed the exposure 6 months ago. I have decided not to remove the flare but to crop it out which also has the benefit of making the mountain in the midground appear closer & more imposing. I think the crop makes for a stronger image & not just for the removal of flare. Link to comment
J. Perez 0 Posted November 21, 2006 Hi Kah, very nice landscape. I do like your cropped version better. Cheers, J Link to comment
treeffe 0 Posted November 21, 2006 Colours composition and details are overwealming. The flare isn't a big problem for me even if I think that without it the picture could be better. Congrats -Fabio- Link to comment
kahkityoong 0 Posted November 21, 2006 I have replaced the display photo with the same full frame version but without the flare (which took some effort cloning out in the end), it doesn't seem to have uploaded yet. Please compare with the cropped version I have attached above as a link. Thanks. Link to comment
daniel_aurell 0 Posted November 21, 2006 I like your image very much. It's one of the best I've seen of this motif. The lines the bedrock has guides the eye to a central point, then moving to the more distant formations in the background. Now when you've boxed this one, try to explore the sunrise from a higher viewpoint, allowing more deepth in the water. Like an airballoon some 5-30 meters upp? Link to comment
kahkityoong 0 Posted November 23, 2006 Daniel, I liked this viewpoint because I wanted to include those interesting splashes of orange/yellow lichen on the rock. Unfortunately this perspective does not give the sense of how high up from sea level I am. The edge of the rock I am standing on is also the edge od a cliff. I also think a different perspective showing how far down below the water is would be interesting. I have several other shots that show this to better effective. Next time I will see if I can climb up higher. Link to comment
mikestacey 0 Posted November 26, 2006 Definitely an excellent shot. Subtle glow on the rocks and sea is what gets me, not to mention the composition. Link to comment
