This is an excellent shot. I have not tried many sports/action shots but you did a great job capturing the flow and direction, and you were able to focus really well on the biker at the same time. Cheers.

Great timing and sense of action. My only suggestion is that it looks like you've used first curtain sync flash, and it's cast the blur in front of the rider's face. Maybe rear curtain flash would have been more natural if you have it available.

 

Minor stuff though - like the shot a lot.

I appreciate your comments guys. John P, thanks for the suggestion. I have been using the fill setting on the flash to force it to fire as suggested in the manual, but after reading your comments experimented with second curtain. I found that I can force firing in 2nd curtain if I'm in shutter priority or manual, so that's one more reason to discard sports mode and set things up manually. And all this time I've been trying to overcome this problem by perfecting my panning technique so your suggestion was very useful, cheers!
