Very nice shot, perfect timing. Question: Where did you take this picture (city), how far were you ? . Thanks, very nice portfolio, I'll keep visiting DL

I sympathize with William McC. This shot is so good, I feel a similar desire to find fault, only there isn't any. This is wonderful, can't say any more.

Jody,

I agree with Kurt. There seems to be some reflection of light off the snow on to the wings, then deflected back into the shadow area, lightening it some. Combined with the higher distance off the snow of the owl, and the translucency of the wings, it's not hard to imagine that shadow appearing lighter. As for the footprints, given the intensity of the white snow, the fact that the little rodent is very light, therefore not likely to leave deep footprints that might cast a shadow, and the relatively high angle of the sun (judging by the shadow on the owl) it doesn't seem unreasonable that any footprints wouldn't show.

I can only imagine the anticipation and then excitement of a shot like this. It's stunning. I especially like the intensity in the eyes of the owl, locked on like lasers. Simply spectacular. Thanks for sharing it with us.
