Richard, I do see the beauty in her and no doubt she is a good model, However I just cannot get the richness in the color and the smile in her eyes. Hmmm...An unnatural, forced smile can make her look stiff and, frankly, weird. When people are smiling and waiting for a photo to be snapped, their facial muscles can get caught in all sorts of strange positions. To remedy this, try to time your smile so that you don't have to hold it for too long. Also, imagine something really funny (don't be afraid to laugh a bit, even) or think of someone,your spouse or child, for example,who makes you happy. By doing so, you'll get a genuine smile. If you don't like your smile or your teeth, try a more subdued, closed- or partially-closed-mouth smile. Regardless of how you choose to smile, the happier and more relaxed you are, the better. Sorry, It's just my two cents.

it appears that this was a cloudy day, but that you still had her with her back to where the sunlight would have been coming from.

 

the only thing i would have done differently was to maybe get her lower, so as to use more of the trees as a background. another invaluable accessory is a 5in1 reflector. some silver reflections bounced back at her might have done better than the apparent fill flash.

 

outside of that and maybe having her turn her head a little to either side, i can't think of anything else to critique. she is lovely, and i like the pensive look. long hair can be a bit of a beatch outside as well ;=)

 

good shot though. i was just commenting on what i might hace done differently.

Thanks for commenting. Truly she's a better model than I am a photographer, but I'm not quite understanding you. Are you saying I should increase the color saturation? I was rather drawn to her expression & that's why I chose this image. We all see thing a little differently I guess.

I appreciate your comment. I found it helpful. Yes it was a heavily overcast day with a moderate wind.

Nice image. My eye wants to go to the lightest part -- the blank sky -- which detracts from the model. I almost have to squint to dim the bright background and look into the very deep shadow. Agree about fill.

I really like this image - it is interesting, has good even lighting, and an appealing face. In my opinion it just needs a bit more colour and brightness... So, forgive me for not being able to control my urge to manipulate it slightly as per the attached!
