Thank you Therese, Allan, Ruud and Rafik. I find this whole digital photography thing to be a lot like opening gifts---you get some nice ones and some duds, and some surprises! Didn't know I had the timing on this one until I uploaded. Pleased you liked it and took the time to comment.

Excellent shot. Using the rule of thirds, I would be tempted to crop the dead space to the right of the sparrow. Congratulations. Regards Carl

Sweet, very well done

Of all of your bird photos, this is my favorite. I'm struck by small area this sparrow is clinging to, and the out-of-focus background enables her to stand out more clearly. There are always alternatives within a photo, and I'd be tempted to either pan the camera to the left or crop on the right to remove most of the right-hand picket, thereby putting the sparrow on the right side of the photo and looking into the space on the left.

Thanks Stephen, yes I need to come back to this and work on it some more. I am just learning a little photo shop this weekend--finally--and will likely spend the winter working on some of these. Off to the right the background starts to change to a grey so I avoided it. But I think if I clone a little I can get that crop.
