Vibrant colors. Strong composition with the riverbed going from bigger to smaller from left to right, added framing, correct position of the rock on the bottom left corner. Some shadows are too strong, but may be helping to keep the eyes on the beautiful light on the hill.

You've got many ingredients of a good landscape here -- color, diagonal line, the rhythm of the hills. But, to my eye anyway, the composition feels unbalanced. The left half of the image is light in tone, deeply colored, with few details. The right half is dark, more monchromatic, and full of details. The effect is that the right half feels 'heavier' than the left.

I suggest experimenting with cropping from the right, and lightening the foreground on the right side. Perhaps you'll find a variation that's more compelling as a complete image.

Hi john what a lovely landscape, welldone, the lighting is very warm and nice on the mountains and the blues of the water are wonderful, the only suggestion i humbly have is to try flipping it horizontally, my regards, RK!

I echo James's comments - it's a almost a lovely image that doesn't quite gel. You have beautifully captured the magical autumnal light of the Lakes, though. I'm not so sure aboutt the use of the branches in the top right - in my opinion they are somewhat overused in Lake District landscapes! Keen to see other crops/versions..best wishes, Hugo

Thanks for the varied feedback everyone. That's what posting here's all about and I really value the feedback.

I tried a lot of variations of comp and liked this one best, and sometimes you just have to go with your personal preference on this kind of thing, recognising aesthetics are very subjective. Some suggestions e.g. flipping horizontally certainly improve the pic, but are just too much of a corruption of the natural beauty of the place for me to be comfortable with (and OK, I realise I'm not entirely consistent here because I've got a whole gallery of re-toned stuff, but in this case a more natural treatment just seemed right). Again, that's personal preference and doesn't mean I don't value the feedback.

It's good to know how other people see it though, and this definitely gives me plenty to think about and watch for.

cheers,

John.

Lovely capture of these beautiful colors and very nice composition. The reflection of the sky in the water is what takes me. Congrats.

I tend to agree with you any manipulation of the photograph would not relay the natural asthetic beauty of the shot
