Sun Tree

mackdamon

I don't quite understand fog shots yet, but this is my favorite. Shot at 3am in dense fog. f/2.8 10 second exposure.

all i will tell you is that i had to think about setting my lower jaw back into position after i saw this....i was afraid i wouldn't get it in the right spot after it had dropped so far.

At first I thought this was taken at sunset in Africa or somewhere similar...Nice use of a daylight film in flourescent/tungsten lighting giving it an extremely warm mood!

From thumbnail, I too thought this was another African sunset shot...albeit a very well-executed one. Now that I know the story (got it from misty lamp pole) think it is incredible and extraordinary...especially if super-warm light is natural result of exposure and not added after. Any filters? Experimenting with night shots, artificial available light using daylight film and get acid greens sometimes when I don't want them--what do you got in them lights in Texas? (>_<) ...Great shot.

I've had people ask, has this been photoshopped? No. This is straight off the UltraCD I got from the lab, it was resized and posted. I did not use any filters to acheive the color. I ran around the tree and fired a hot shoe flash twice (I just hit TEST, no real TTL stuff) from two different angles to try and make the tree have texture and not be a silhouette. Guess it kinda worked! I really appreciate the feedback, and hope you have a chance to check out my less fancy photos and leave a comment :-)

This functions on many planes aesthetically and visually making it a continually interesting photo. Definately a candidate for POWeek here. A fine addition to your collection and success story for experimenting outside the box.

I agree with Neil this is definitely POW material. Your work is creative and thoughtful. Good eye.
