Peter, the following is my feeling when I view your picture. It has a very good potential. The tones are nice, so is the detail. The curb (or whatever it is) that is starting in the LH corner (almost) and continues on kinda diagonally is leading my eyes well...but then it's cut off by the right side of the bridge. I'd rather see it continue until it disappears in the distance...so you'd have to stand more to the left. I would guess that you were trying to show the right side of the bridge, but there is not much to see, plus it's obscurred by the trees. What I wrote for the curb goes also for the roadway. That too would look better if it were visible continuing on. I'd give it 4 points out of seven. If it were adjusted to what I suggested (and depending what the continuing roadway would show in the distance), I'd give it 5.5 out of seven points. Cheers, Micheal

Peter - I am not sure that I agree with Michael. Doing as he suggests and shooting further to the left to see more of the road would perhaps give a more pleasing line for the eye to follow but loosing the side of the bridge would also take away much of the context for the image. I am not even convinced that the road would be seen to disappear into the distance as he suggests because it may be broken by the crest of the bridge. I think this is a decent image, the exposure and tones are good but the major problem in terms of composition is the scrubby tree on the right of the image. As Michael says, the eye is led nicely from left to right, but then there is no obvious focal point and the tree distracts from any there may be. Obviously, there is not much you could do about the tree, but perhaps you could have cropped a little tighter on the left. It may also have been good to have had the person with the umbrella closer and to the right giving the picture more focal interest. With these points in mind, however, I did enjoy looking at this image.
