chris hayes 0 Posted October 27, 2006 Shot taken at dusk, any suggestions for a sharper pic next time? Link to comment
corkman 0 Posted October 28, 2006 Maybe a higher shutter speed. And keeping your finger on continuous AF. Still a great photo. Link to comment
Wayne Melia 6,037 Posted October 28, 2006 I don't think the picture suffers from lack of sharpness - the blur in the tail is effective. The lighting - leaving the horse as a virtual silhouette - is unfortunate, but I know one only has so much flexibility at a rodeo. Timing is perfect with the horse's feet off the ground; and the angle looking up at the triumphant horse over the defeated cowboy speaks the message of the moment, but creates the "windows" of distracting high contrast at the top right, but again, what can you do when your options are limited? Nice to see somebody else shooting rodeo, and again: the dominant factor is the well captured moment. Link to comment

photodonn 0 Posted November 1, 2006 Personally, some blur works for me also, but to answer your question, equipment matters. For example, I have the Canon 30D, after having owned the 10D. The 30D has a fastly superior sensor for low light conditions. With it I can use 1000ISO or higher and still get results I can work with. You do have an exposure challenge here with the dark horse vs light background, and it takes more work (or a flash) to get detail from the horse without blowing out the background. Nice shot :) Link to comment
j.k._york 0 Posted November 21, 2006 wow, great capture Chris. wonderful action and a little blur helps convey motion. this shot is sharp where it counts! i love the clown on the left. also the splash of sand kicked up by the boot ties the shot together as the cowboy is grounded and the horse is airborne. great work. regards, J.K.
