This is my father's 1962 Chevrolet Impala SuperSport. This is a

special car to him. I took this shot to present to him as a gift for

Christmas! Please take the time to tell me what you think. I really

would like to know waht others think of this photo. I want to

present it as an 11x14 framed photo. Thank you for critiquing and

rating.

Troy, you have done a very good job. Nice setting, well handled technically. It is a photograph that mounted and framed will look great and one that your father will treasure.

One thing you might consider. Even though this is an extremely nice documentation. It's like a car portrait. Another twist would be to try to capture the excitement your father felt or feels when he drives the car. I am sure that being behind the wheel takes forty years off his age. I know it would mine.

Something maybe shot on a roadway from a very low angle and tilted fifteen or twenty degrees to give the image some excitement. You might even consider an artificial glint off one corner of the chrome. Or shoot it from an angle where there is some actual flare, something that says I'm a road warrior when I am behind the wheel of this automobile--like I drove my Chevy to the levee?. Give it the full 1960's era trendy auto presentation look. Just a thought. Did that with an old pickup I drove for seventeen years to get back at a co-worker that kept gigging me about my truck. Printed it, framed it and hung is over his desk at work. Real easy to do and looked great. Actually it looked so great I wouldn't part with it and took it back. I loved that truck.

There's an intriguing article on building a $20 boom for exciting car photos in the Nov issue of Pop Photo & Imaging. Interesting shots using the D-Rebel, self-timer and all of 6 to 10 mph.

Troy,

What a beautiful car, your father has a right to consider it special. One thing I might suggest is the setting. Unless a car is at a show or event, having it on grass or in this case, what appears to be a field, seems to be a bit out of place. These rolling works of art are better suited to the road. If you could find a stretch of road with nice surroundings, the '62 would really come to life. You might try other angles as well, down low from tire level, from the rear (I love the back end of the '58-'64 Impalas ) etc...

Just my opinions...
