Love what you have managed to capture, I never comment on photos as I am just starting out and dont feel in a position to critique, however I do have an opinion on what I like and from looking at your work, I like it very much.

I dont do negatives only positives!

This, too, is my first time ever commenting on a photo. What an amazing thing to be in the right place at the right time. I've only been into photography for about a year so I'm still a major rookie. I cannot wait to be at the skill level you are, Adam. I would have hopped out of the car, saw it was raining, and kept on driving. Thanks for the explanation of what you did and how you did it. It really helps newbies like me understand what it takes to get impressive shots like this. In fact, I'd love to have the full story behind more shots.

Being from Alberta, this shot is especially inspirational for me. I agree with some of the comments on polarization and adjusting some of the levels, but that aside, it's still a stunning shot! I also appreciate the story behind the photograph, as it helps put us there with you. Beautiful!

...why I never try to fail looking at Timecatcher.com at least once a week, because Adam's and the other guys' work is consistently breathtaking. And pictures like this one are amongst the main reasons why I love photography at all. This is a brilliant picture full of mood and perfectly composed. And by the way, I definitely enjoy reading about how it was made.

Beautiful work, Adam. Interesting comment above about the need for "more polarization" - I think they meant more depolarization (removal of polarized light) in the middle of the image. This certainly would have brought out more submerged rocks, but the reflection as you have it here creates a nice zone, dividing the photo into layers. I also like the position of the red rock, lower left, to balance the rainbow's "movement" to the right. BTW, did you know that James Prescott Joule (1818 - 1898) planned his honeymoon to an area of Great Britain that had waterfalls, so that he could measure the temperature differential between the top and the bottom of the falls? So you're in good company there. Best regards.

Adam, all I can say is that since this seems to rate 3's and 4's, I don't really know if I ever want to post again, because I cannot think of one of my pictures that comes close to this. What is expected?

You know what, I liked this before but now that I've moved to Banff I have to say I find it puzzling.

I'm at this location alot but I've never, ever seen the lake so calm. For those who don't know Minnewanka is not some calm mountain moraine that gives perfect reflections practically every day. The wind blows through here pretty good and the lake is always very choppy. To see what the lake typically looks like check any one of my shots of it.

I was out there alot this summer and fall and never once saw a reflection in the lake. To be there on a day after a rainstorm, to see a rainbow, and to have the lake calm enough for reflections.... very, very rare. I hope you know just how fortunate you were to be there for those conditions. And well done capturing it so well.

Hi Clayton,

Thanks for your comment. It was the only time Ive ever been there, so judging by your message yes I guess I was very fortunate.

You certainly do live in a lovely place!!

Adam.
