This shot looks simple, but was a quite tricky to get right. I wanted

to maintain the whole greyscale. By careful metering I managed to

keep the highlight detail in the window, and at the same time

maintain the shadow detail in the darker areas. The print was

straight forward with almost no dodging or burning.

Regardless of how tricky it was to meter, or how difficult it was to shoot...it is a beautiful image. It is expertly composed and photographed. The tonal range of the print/scan is excellent too. Very nicely executed!

Nice composition and spot on exposure. Have you seen any of John Smiths photos of the construction of Sydney University 1857-58. Have a look at "Picturing Australia, A history of photography" by Anne-Marie Willis
