I'm ten year's old, and this is a shot from my first roll of film.

I'm using my dad's old camera, and working in manual to learn the

basics. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Are you serious? I expected something like this to have came from someone much older than you / and experienced too. Frankly, it's much better than many photographs of grownups in this site. Very well done. Ask your parent to get an enlargement and frame it on the wall (tell the printer to increase exposure by 1/2 a stop). Congratulation! Hope to see more photographs from you..

Photo *is* a texture study! Love the way it fills the frame. Good contrast, details and sharp as a tack. Always keep that camera with you and shoot away. Can't wait to see more.

Good first work here. I do think the bottom right region is a little soft and causes my eyes to have trouble figuring where to look. Saturation and color are good, and so is exposure. you're going to be a macro enthusiast aren't you? (I don't know why I say that)

Excellent texture study however.

Really nice. I've got a soft spot for nice wood textures (must be all the time i spend at the ramps.....!!) it looks a little magenta to me, and the green is a little dark but that might just be differences in my CMS than yours. Keep it up, i havent looked at how old you are but it makes no difference. well done.

I would crop a little of the bottom. I think this emphasis's the contrasting textures of the bark by making the smooth section more prominent. Attached is my interpretation.

which leads me to something I tell anyone who'll listen...

Always try to understand what suggestions someone has made, but make up your own mind if they are appropiate for you. It's fine to listen, then reject suggestions.

Good work. The hardest thing I find about photography is learning to see the photographs. You seemed to have achieved this here, the bold strong form of the bark and the tender green leaves.

I will encourage you to keep taking photographs sort through them, show them to others and discuss them. You will need to learn how to take some criticism and that is a good thing. Learn to talk about what you enjoy and not enjoy in photographs.

I feel that the green leaves in this shot are a bit too under-exposed, and perhaps the shot has a slight magenta cast. That really is by the way though.

What could be nice is to go out and take some shot along a similar theme (If this theme is what you enjoy). This will help you to learn to see such forms and how you like them to be displayed.

Good luck!

You've made me focus on something that I overlook everyday and realize how much beauty there is in it. Someone posted a topic today about "what makes a great photo a great photo". My first thought was that a great photo is one that manages to really focus the viewer's attention on the subject matter. Looking at your photo, I would have to guess that being able to do that comes quite naturally to you.

Super rendition of texture and including the leaf for reference and composition is a nice touch. Don't forget to bracket your shots on important photos. Much better than my first efforts! Thanks for sharing it with us :)

For what could be a very simple photo you delievered an interesting scene. The focus, contrast, color tones and the good scan all worked well together. Plus it takes courage to take a photo like this and expect it to be interesting. Very good.
