gauthier 0 Posted March 18, 2002 Cool idea! I'll probably try it myself, as I often keep a reserve a gummies for my girlfriend who's very fond of them. One or two points, though. On the composition level, I find there is too much empty black space and not enough of the colorful gummies. On the lighting level, the light is a bit hot and some diffusion material (a small piece of thin paper, for instance) in front of the window might have helped. Some light from behind (a small mirror somewhere outside the frame, for instance) would have added some extra luminosity to the gummies. Depth of field is a bit shallow; a smaller aperture and a tripod would probably make a difference, especially if you include more gummies in a future shot. Finally, the glass could be a bit cleaner; with the magnification and the light, every tiny speck of dust becomes visible. Anyway, despite all this nitpicking, I really like the idea behind this shot. Keep up the good work. Link to comment
nate_webb 0 Posted March 18, 2002 I've never seen a comment with so much detail. Thanks. I guess I was just too darn lazy to wash the glass. Link to comment
uber photography 0 Posted March 25, 2002 Photographing any kind of food is a very specialized branch of photography. It's very tricky, cause you gotta make the food look real, but at the same time you have to fiddle with it to make it look entising. In this case the main problem is that the bears look too 'plasticky' and not soft and yummy enough. Problem lies with the lighting. too many specular highlights. I also feel that the rim of the glas is too prominent, I prpbably would have heaped more gummies on top to almost cover the rim. There are some good books on food photography, if you are interested in becoming a gummi photographer I would suggest to read them for hints and tips.
