Basic studio setup with a 2'x3' softbox on subject's left, up 30 degrees. Fill umbrella directly in front of subject, next to camera. Hair light up on a boom with a 20 degree honeycomb. Background converted from blown white to a gradient in post, originally lit with an Alien Bee 800 just behind & below subject. Manual, 1/100th, f11, strobes triggered by the D200 built-in flash in manual mode, -- power.

We worked on getting the right balance of strength, agression &

femininity in the look. This was the last shot of the session. I

had her cross her arms and this was it. Most of the other shots

were nice, but this one made the cut. The media target is a yellow

pages ad, subject on the left. The gradient background was added in

post. It was originally shot on a white sheet & used a strobe to

blast out the background. This did cause a slight purple fringe

around the subject, as to be expected. The sheet had unsightly

wrinkles, otherwise I would have made it only 2 stops brighter than

the key on subject, saving me some work. I used about a 1.3 stop

difference between the key and fill sides of her face.
