I really like this picture, but I'm afraid the bride might not.

Should I show it to her? Any comments?

Well, you never know what a bride is going to like, but I'm leaning toward showing it to her. It's really a nice full-length portrait, with some good lighting. Whatever he's sitting on kinda detracts, but I'm thinking she might like it.

Best Regards

Edward, I think you surely must be fishing. Girls usually have a special bond with fathers. This is a wonderful portrait of someone probably very special in the bride's life and taken on her special day. If you fail with this shot feller, buy a peanut vending route!!!! I would have liked to see the rest of the shoes and the white thing above his head toned down or cloned out, but hey, I'm looking for Karsh... Please tell me why you think the bride might not like this photograph.

I disagree with cropping out the chair on the left. In a formal portrait, I would probably agree. But in this case, the chair is an environmental element, and the only element, that will, in the mind of the bride at least, forever tie the location of the portrait to the location of her wedding. I think the chair becomes an important connecting element. Otherwise the portrait just becomes a studio portrait.

Alas, I've noticed that many brides are scared of anything shadowy. We're looking at this as photographers so we can do things like compare it to Karsh (wow, thank's for that comparison. He's my idol.) but I have to put myself into the mind of the bride who's idea of a good picture is something in People magazine (ever seen People run a picture like this?) Just look at the ratings this is getting and you'll see what I mean.

Bare in mind that a lot of ratings come from people that would lop off their own ear if you could get six people to tell them that Van Gogh was the only one that knew anything about real art. Your subject is centered, feet are cropped and there is not definite separation on the right shoulder or hair, all Captain Kangaroo Nos Nos. The art by formula group have a great deal of difficulty getting past such infractions of the rules to see the beauty of the moment you captured. Only you can determine which camp your bride falls into. It may not exactly be yanking a cigar out of Churchill's mouth, but your image does have a lot of Karsh's honesty of character.

By now the matter must have been resolved. Which way did it go? Did she or did she not?

Alas, I did submit it. The bride complained. And the agency I work for has forbidden me to do any more black and white work. Which was pretty much what I expected.
