Hello J. Edwards. The first is the most scary. A good photograph is made up of many things. Subject matter. Colours and shapes. Form and lines. Light and shade to name just a few. But a solid compositional foundation is probably the most important. That is what we build on. If we learn and understand the rule on nine we can begin. Think of an an A4 sheet of paper divided into nine equal parts. Two vertical lines, two horizontal lines. These become your guiding lines

as where to place things like the horizon. Or trees or buildings in the case of the vertical lines. Leading lines. In your case the steps leading the eye into the picture is a good example. However, in your picture you have almost cut your picture into two halfs. Observe closely and you will see. This means there is constant tension between the two. We need to make one more dominant than the other. Look closely at some of the excellent photos on this site and you will see what I mean. I think this is enough for now. Don't want to burden you with too much information at once. Welcome and best wishes. May you learn until your heart is content. Cheers.
