The portrait emerging from the inky black shadow is exquisite. I would have been tempted to crop out the white feature in the bottom right corner. To my eye it distracts the eye from the main subject and weakens the composition a touch.

Even better Polina. I think it's one of the loveliest portraits I have ever seen here. I could live with it on my wall for a long time. Hope you don't mind but I tried a tighter crop and sepia tone for you to look at. I don't think my interpretation is any better, but I just wanted to illustrate the infinite cropping potential and how a good sepia can provide a different mood.

I've followed your advice and cropped out the window frame, but I like the brighter diagonal of the wall - just to balance image a little:) Sepia looks quite different, you're right, it is milder than b/w version... Thank you for the your comment and discussion, hope it's not the last time we have a talk:)

respectfully,

Polina

Very emotional, very moving.

Amazing work, Polina.

I like the first attachment to the posting most: I am not convinced about the wall being useful here, but I agree that it changes the mood somewhat.

Dark and powerful.

That's a great picture Polina. A really great mood. I agree about the first attachment posted, I works better with the sepia toning and the wall less obvious. Lighting on the side of her face is just great. Once again, great job!
