Grand Tetons is truly a dominating figure in the Teton range. The sunset shot of the Grand Tetons is always a tricky one, but can be rewarding sometimes. The Sun's light is totally overshadowed by the height and mass of the Tetons. During this fall day the Teton valley was in shadow almost an hour before sunset. Graduated ND with Soft Stop is a must, considering more than 3 stop differrence between the bright sky and shadowed valley. Lens with the range 24 to 70 (actual) is my favorite for this location. More wideangle could also help.

This picture taken from the Snake river overlook. We reached just in time for the grand show. The game of the Sun, clouds and the Tetons was brathtaking! oohs...and aahs... were common. Clouds once blocking the sun, would let go sometimes through its windows and suddenly the Tetons would through 5 to 6 flashlight type rays behind its peaks. This happened twice, first one was bright white-yellow light, second being this one, bright organge and was my favorite.

Many photographers left immediately when this light was gone. I stayed with a couple more. I was not disappointed. The third show displayed more of a union of all three - The Sun, Clouds and Grand Tetons. Clouds over the top of the Tetons was becoming ruby red and I knew this was an indication of "The End".

5 years ago, I was hit by a thunderstorm and rain, Mother Nature was in a good mood today!

Lalit, great story which tells me you are very talented and well informed in photography.I cannot tell you how much I like this picture, beautiful light, you have captured so well.I think you can sharpen this a bit more. Wonderful placement of lines. It is funny what you have mentioned about the photographers leaving the scene,I have seen it so many times, when you turn your back on nature, she proves you wrong. Great job....I love the colors, exposure, I wish one day I will see this place...

Florian, Vrindavan Lila, Rajeev and Aivar,

Thank you very much for viewing this photo and your comments. Vrindavan Leela, I am sure you meant "Heavenish Place".

Lalit, one more comment because when I was checking out your folio, this shot just grabbed me! I'm a big fan of Ansel Adams and I'm sure you've seen his famous Black and White shot from this location. Always wondered what it would have looked like in full color. Now I know and a big thanks for satisfying my curiosity...RAY
