pt2 0 Posted October 4, 2006 Each Sunday at daybreak a few elderly folk materialise armed only with these trolleys, head downtown and return some hours later with their 'wares' which I imagine to be refuse/ garbage unwanted by others. I thought this suited the theme on a couple of levels : these men seem like 'rejects'; they're carrying goods which others have discarded; and the sign on the wall implies that this man is heading towards the exit - discarded by a younger, more modern world. pnital 36 Posted October 5, 2006 Well seen PT interesting approach to the theme, common sight scene in cities. Both the man and his "cargo" look " discarded" in the empty street,.I think as well that the cut letters on the upper right are a competition for attention without adding to the whole. Without them the entry directions tells us where he is coming from, but where is he going? The darker wall on the right and the two signs are a good ballance to the man and his load. I like the empty space in the FG, gives the scene a " breathing space.". I like the general dark composition lighted well also by the strong white lines.( a copy) Link to comment
patrick flynn 0 Posted October 5, 2006 I really like all of the symbols that relate to being discarded. I've attached a cropped version that I like a bit better. I hope you don't mind. Link to comment
sully 0 Posted October 6, 2006 PT, Great eye. The symbolism is spot on. My first thought when I looked at the picture was the man himself could be seen is an outcast. I agree with and see the symbolism you mention in your comments. As far as the composition, I like the negative space in the foreground. I think it adds to the feeling of isolation and lonliness. I do think the top of the photo should be cropped. I don't like cutting off the sign a the top. Link to comment

tom t 0 Posted October 8, 2006 I agree on the cropping of the white letters and I would even crop the traffic sign. Example attached. Apart from that, me too I really like this one. Great theme fit but a godo shot even outside of the assigment. Thanks, PT. Tom Link to comment
giuseppe_miriello1 0 Posted October 23, 2006 This is "social discarded"! The image is graphically clean and the theme fit is achieved by the juxtapotion of an ordered landscape to the sadness of social abandon. Striking. Link to comment
