im not quite sure why you are copping such slow ratings, its a pretty descent picture. Perhaps dialing up saturation would make it 'pop' more, but its good as is.

Thanks for your comment. I did increase the saturation on the helicopter slightly. I chose to leave the background alone so it would emphasise the helicopter was the important bit. Perhaps people are not very impressed with helicopters. All my helicopter pics have got low ratings. Even my Sea King at Wasdale Head - a fantastic machine in a superb landscape. Perhaps you had to be there!!! I only rate pics identifying myself, you were the only one to do that on this photo - are they rating it or rating the subject? Regards Martin

I guess i would beleive its the subject. I think that the background in this is superb really, you often dont see an aircraft flying from an open grass plain. Say, i think i have an idea, go down to the airport and take a picture of a helicopter against a horrible background of cars, people, buildings and other background clutter and maybe it will rate better :)... i still think an over all saturation boost may be good to make the green more vibrant though and thus make the whole image pop, not just the subject from its background.

Helicopters i guess are just not seen as majestic and nice to look at as normal flying craft are... (if the wings are travelling faster than the craft, something aint right...)

I guess helicopters fall into the same category as waterfalls in the rating box, for whatever reason.

The debate about low ratings goes on, I see!

How anyone can rate a photo that's well exposed, sharp subject with a decent composition a 3 for aesthetics is beyond me. If it were blurred, and poorly exposed then maybe a 3 is deserved. But this shot is the former. They may feel it's not too original though, but that depends on how many helo shots they've seen. Loads, I guess.

Anyway, nice to see the taxiing Spit in the background on large view, see if you can spot it!
