it is disturbing, and i think that is the point. really fine art makes us think and often troubles us. plain pretty pictures are just junk food. if this were mine, i'd probably play with it some in photoshop, desaturate it some, add a vignette, and probably a texture layer. i hope you don't mind if i show you what i mean. this was just some quick play....

This image is suspossed to distrubing, or at least make you feel a little uncomfortable. It's part of a series called "Drowning in Lake Michigan" and is based on my personal experience of almost drowning in Lake Michigan last summer. Not at all a pleasant thing and that is what I am trying to convey with this series of images. You can see the whole series in my portfolio here.

James,

You don't think of this as "Fine Art" and that is okay. But what category on photo.net would you put this image in? I used to put my shots like this into the "uncategorzed" category, but that went away earlier this year, so I'm open to suggestions.

Linda,

Thanks for the comments and I like what you did in Photoshop. I'm still playing around a little with these. And I had wierd things happen when I used the "save for web" feature in CS2, almost like it reverted back and didn't save any of my adjustments. I might go back and convert the RAW files again to see if I can get something I like a little better.

Pat, you removed most of your photos from this file. there were 2 with water overcoming the doll's face that i thought really conveyed the feeling of drowning...not that i have the personal experience you do. that must have been terrifying!!! Lake Michigan is huge! i grew up in Michigan and went to Warren Dunes many times. i am glad that you survived your near drowning!!!!

Excellent. Perhaps even better than my favorite "face" shot in the folder. Sand and water surround this arm in such a perfectly geometrical way... Very strong. Could be outstanding in b&w as well, I think... Congrats.
